Lemmings, the Tribes

Psygnosis, Inc, 1994

The Plot

Like their legendary real life cousins, the lemmings drop from their entrance and thereafter blindly walk in a line until they fall off cliffs, get "crisped " in a fire, eaten by dragons, drown, or suffer any one of many other horrible fates. Your task is to endow the appropriate lemmings at the appropriate moments with the skills necessary to save as many of their brethren as possible. You must cumulatively save a minimum number of lemmings from each tribe to enable them to board the ark which will carry them to a new land. By building stairs, digging down or diagonally, blocking the way, surfboarding, and other skills, lead the lemmings to the safe exit.

User Interface

The lemmings ' skills appear in boxes across the bottom of the screen. A skill may be selecting by clicking on it or by selecting it with a function key. Once a skill is selected, clicking on a lemming endows that lemming with the skill. Not all puzzles allow all skills and the number of times you can use a skill is limited.

Comments

"Lemmings, the Tribes" adds many new skills to the lemmings' repertoire. Some of these are truly new, others are just variants on the original games' skills. Each tribe has its own theme such as medieval, scottish, beach, etc. This set of puzzles contains the only lemmings puzzle that I was never able to solve - one in the "Sports" tribe called "Take Up Archery". It turns out that I knew how to solve it. I just never mastered the manual dexterity to carry it through.
